The Leafy Mix Plant Pack includes Butterhead Lettuce, Red Frilled Lettuce, Mizuna Mustard, Garnet Giant Mustard, and Giant Red Mustard—each with its own unique growing preferences. Here’s how to grow them successfully and enjoy their beauty and flavour.
🥬 Butterhead Lettuce
Flavour & Use
Delicate, buttery texture. Perfect for salads, burgers, and lettuce wraps.
Care Tips
- Maintenance: Thin to 1 seedling per Plant Pod.
- Pruning & Harvesting: One-time harvest. Ready around 40–50 days. Wait until lettuce head is full before harvesting entire plant.
Extra Tips
- Gently spread mature leaves apart to improve airflow to the entire plant.
- Use harvested leaves immediately to avoid wilting.
🥬 Red Frilled Lettuce
Flavour & Use
Mildly sweet, crisp texture. Excellent in salads, wraps, sandwiches, and as a garnish.
Care Tips
- Maintenance: Thin to 1 strong seedling once sprouted.
- Pruning & Harvesting: One-time harvest. Ready in 40–50 days. Cut entire plant at base when leaves are full size. Trim any leaves too close to the light if needed.
Extra Tips
- Harvested leaves will wilt quickly; submerge in cold water or use same day for best freshness.
🥬 Mizuna Mustard
Flavour & Use
Feathery texture with a mild, peppery bite. Great for salads, stir-fries, and soups.
Care Tips
- Maintenance: Thin to 1 seedling.
- Pruning & Harvesting: Harvest the outer leaves first at ~6 in (15 cm), as early as day 25 to allow smaller leaves to continue to grow. Final full harvest by day 40–50.
Extra Tips
- Prune/Harvest individual leaves at a time as the plant starts to grow to allow the smaller leaves to continue to grow.
- Susceptible to disease or leaf burn if not pruned regularly; remove affected leaves promptly.
🥬 Garnet Giant Mustard
Flavour & Use
Peppery and slightly bitter with rich garnet leaves. Great for salads, cooking, or pickling.
Care Tips
- Maintenance: Thin to 1 seedling.
- Pruning & Harvesting: Like Red Giant Mustard—you can start harvesting the outer larger growing leaves at 25–30 days to allow smaller leaves to continue to grow. Final harvest by day 40–50.
Extra Tips
- Prune/Harvest individual leaves at a time as the plant starts to grow to allow the smaller leaves to continue to grow.
- Very similar to Red Giant Mustard—distinguishable by leaf colour in early and late stages.
🥬 Red Giant Mustard
Flavour & Use
Bold, peppery, slightly bitter. Adds colour to salads or heat to stir-fries. Can be pickled.
Care Tips
- Maintenance: Thin to 1 seedling.
- Pruning & Harvesting: Start harvesting the outer larger growing leaves at 25–30 days to allow smaller leaves to continue to grow. Final harvest by day 40–50.
Extra Tips
- Prune/Harvest individual leaves at a time as the plant starts to grow to allow the smaller leaves to continue to grow.
- Watch for signs of bolting.
- Monitor for leaf colour loss and remove leaves that are getting close to the LED's.
💡 Tip: Place larger plants like Red Giant and Garnet Giant Mustard on the bottom rows to allow the leaves to fully grow upwards with ample space.
