Plantaform is committed to sustainability, and our design choices for the plant pods reflect this commitment.
Components and Sustainability:
1. Pod Frame: Each pod frame is made from recyclable plastic. After the growth cycle, you can clean and recycle the frame according to local recycling guidelines.
2. Rockwool Medium: Although rockwool, made from rock fibers, is not compostable, it has sustainable uses beyond single plant growth. Rockwool’s excellent moisture retention properties make it useful as a soil amendment. After removing it from the pod, you can break it into small pieces and mix it into your garden soil to help retain water.
Disposal and Reuse:
• After Harvest: Once you’ve harvested your plants, cut away the stems and roots, and gently remove the rockwool from the pod frame. The rockwool can be disposed of in your trash or used as a soil enhancer if it’s free of disease.
• Recycling the Pod Frame: The empty pod frame can be recycled—check your local recycling rules to determine the best disposal method.
• Reuse of Accessories: Germination domes and pod lids are designed to be reusable. Save these components for future growing cycles to reduce waste and maintain a sustainable gardening practice.
