Here’s how to grow them successfully within your Plantaform Indoor Garden and enjoy a vibrant mix of flavours packed with nutrition.
🥬 Bok Choy
Flavour & Use
Crunchy, mild, and slightly peppery with a juicy texture. Perfect for stir-fries, soups, or fresh salads for a refreshing crunch.
Care Tips
- Maintenance: Thin to 1 strong seedling once sprouted to avoid overcrowding.
- Pruning & Harvesting: Begin harvesting the outer larger leaves by day 30 of growing leaving roughly 50% of the plant left to continue growing. Regular pruning will encourage new and extended growth.
Extra Tips
- Harvest the entire plant once it shows any signs of flowering. Flowering will make the taste bitter.
- Prune leaves that are getting close to the LED's.
🥬 Rainbow Swiss Chard
Flavour & Use
Mildly earthy and slightly sweet with vibrant, colourful stems. Delicious sautéed, steamed, or added fresh to salads for a pop of colour.
Care Tips
- Maintenance: Thin to 1 strong seedling once sprouted to avoid overcrowding. Although the seedlings may look small, the rainbow swiss chard will get very large in size.
- Pruning & Harvesting: Begin harvesting outer leaves and stems when plants reach 6 inches tall. Leave the inner stalks to continue growing. Prune back only 30-50% of the plants every couple of weeks so it will have enough energy to continue growing.
Extra Tips
- Prune regularly to keep plants tender and continued growth for prolonged periods
- Remove any yellowing leaves near the base to maintain plant health.
🥬 Romaine Lettuce
Flavour & Use
Subtly sweet and crunchy with a clean finish. Ideal for fresh salads, lettuce wraps, or adding a crisp layer to burgers and sandwiches.
Care Tips
- Maintenance: Thin to 1 to 2 strong seedlings once sprouted.
- Pruning & Harvesting: Start harvesting the outer larger growing leaves at 25–30 days to allow smaller leaves to continue to grow. Continue harvesting regularly for extended yield.
Extra Tips
- Prune/Harvest larger individual leaves as the plant starts to grow to allow the smaller leaves to continue to grow.
- Monitor for leaf colour loss and remove leaves that are getting close to the LED's.
🥬 Black Kale
Flavour & Use
Rich, earthy, and slightly nutty with a hearty texture. Excellent for soups, smoothies, roasted chips, or warm grain bowls.
Care Tips
- Maintenance: Thin to 1 to 2 strong seedlings once sprouted.
- Pruning & Harvesting: Begin harvesting the lower leaves at 25–30 days. You can continue harvesting regularly for extended yield. Just be mindful not to cut off the top of the plant where new leaves continue to form during the growing cycle.
Extra Tips
- Prune/Harvest larger individual leaves as the plant starts to grow to allow the smaller leaves to continue growing.
- The smaller leaves will be sweeter, if you let the leaves get too large they will also get tougher. Regular harvesting helps maintain tenderness and boosts yield.
- Prune leaves that are getting close to the LED's as they will start to form burn marks.
🥬 Curly Kale
Flavour & Use
Bold and slightly peppery with a robust crunch. Great in salads, smoothies, or roasted into kale chips.
